The History of Heritage Prep

A Ministry Begins

In 1966 Pastor Bob Ware and his wife Gail visited Orlando and met with a handful of people who desired to start a soul winning Baptist Church in Orlando. After praying together with consideration, Pastor Ware relocated to Orlando from Edenton North Carolina with his wife and two young boys. The group began the ministry in an auto sales office and soon moved to the old Delaney Street Church building. In a very short time property was purchased at 6000 West Colonial Drive, and the first building was built.

The Vision for a Christian School in Orlando

The conversation and consideration of Tabernacle Baptist Church was to win people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and to disciple them to win others. One of the ways Pastor Ware thought this would be accomplished was to reach children through our Bus Ministry and through a day school. Soon in 1969 Tabernacle Christian School was born beginning with 1st -3rd grade. As interest in the school increased and the student body grew, other grades were added until in 1976 Tabernacle Christian Schools graduated the first senior class. Pastor Ware wanted to up the academic program to a full college preparatory in 1978 and the name of the school was changed to Heritage Preparatory Schools.

A Legacy of Christian Education Continues

Tabernacle Baptist Church and Heritage Preparatory School have not lost that vision that a handful of people had in 1966. Today we are still reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Jesus Christ and discipling them to serve our Lord. We have grown from one small building into a facility of 62,000 square feet with a Bible believing Church, and a Christian school dedicated to quality academics and spiritual growth.
